Kings Canyon National Park Backpacking Trips
A three-day trip to the High Sierra Trail in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park. We camped both nights at Bearpaw "Meadow" -- a nice pine forest campground. The second day was spent making a day-trip to Hamilton Lakes; we made it as far as Lower Hamilton Lake before stopping for lunch and turning back.Supposedly the High Sierra Trail has the easiest profile of all of the trails in SeKi; while I don't doubt...
This is probably the best 5 days of hiking I've ever done, followingthe south end of the John Muir Trail from Onion Valley all the way tothe top of Mount Whitney. It's such a good hike, I've done it twice. We started the hike by dropping our car at Whitney Portal and taking ashuttle to Onion Valley campground, where we had a campgroundreservation for the night. On Monday morning we started up theKearsarge...
Simple loop in the Sequoya & Kings Canyon national parks. The original plan was to summit Mt Whitney also, but it has to be skipped due to the overall difficulty.
This part of the John Muir wilderness, with its mixture of mountain vistas and pristine lakes, is a gorgeous and fun backpacking trip. Some of the trails on this map are bushwacking, but get yourself a good topo map and you can see which section is on trails and which is off-trail. There are lots of great camping spots, and I have tried to indicate a few of them. We went in...
Monday - Friday backpacking trip with a friend and his two kids. We started at North Lake campground and spent the first day hiking up to Piute Lake where we spent the night. The next day we headed up over the pass and almost to Summit Lake before heading south to our next campsite by Muriel Lake. We stayed there the next two days and alternated between day hikes and attempts at...
This was day 18 on our 22 day backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. I'll add addtional detail as time allows. For now, you can read a complete overview of the trip at SoCal Hiker.
The last trip of the season before the conditions make the route too risky! A 4 day extremely strenuous backpacking/snowshoeing/mountaineering adventure in one of the more spectacular parts of Sequoia Nat. Park. I'd done almost all of this route at one time or another, but the seasonally short days, and significant snow made this a different experience. Partially on good trails, partially off-trail on varied terrain. Even during the height of summer season...
This was our 21st day of a 22 day backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. I'll be posting additional details and the remaining days as time permits. Until then, you can read my entire trip overview at SoCal Hiker.
