The following is an extract from a story I wrote: On our first full day we chose Weano Gorge lookout as our base though this is where four gorges intersect.  The views from Oxer Lookout are breathtaking and the red canyons magnificent.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It wasn’t long before we were packed and ready to descend into Hancock Gorge, probably one of the most popular canyon walks.  We were first down there...

Bush Walk | 3.3 miles
The Gorge Rim Walk follows the rim of Dales Gorge, in Karijini National Park which is a bushwalker’s delight. The track goes between the vertigo inducing views of Circular Pool Lookout to the beginning of the Fortescue Falls track. This walk offers spectacular views and is ideal for those who do not want to venture into the depths of Dales Gorge.  For the more adventurous, the steep trail down to the gorge floor...

My friend Bob and I really had no idea where to go as we gazed down from the lookout into Knox Gorge.  However, there was a tree that I noticed that begged to be photographed so we made the decision that the next day we would get up close and personal with said tree.As it turned out, along with a small mini bus group of backpackers, we were the first to descend...

Karijini Canyoning Adventure

Canyoning safely through the Karijini gorges is really one of the best things you can do in Australia. It requires abseiling, climbing, walking, scrambling over rocks, floating on tubes and sliding down a waterfall with a 3-4m plunge. This journey is best as a full day excursion and you must be prepared for getting both hot and very cold. Day time temperatures can exceed 40deg in summer and average around low 20's...

Karijini is the ultimate national park in Australia for nature and adventure. I strongly recommend a canyoning adventure ( www.westozactive.com.au ) and be prepared for cold nights and cold water during winter months and extreme heat and possible floods/storm/fires during the summer months. April, May, September and October are best months for canyoning. Winter is good for hiking. Tom Price visitor centre is usually helpful, Tom Price is the nearest town about 80km from park.
