Graveyard Lakes, John Muir Wilderness

This backpacking trip in the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness will rank high on my list of backpacking trips.  On this trip, we enjoyed walking through dense forests, across and along streams, along lakes, through meadows, up mountain passes lined with boulders and high granite peaks, etc.  We experienced cloudy skies, clear blue skies, high winds, still nights, and frozen water bottles on the last morning. Day 1 – Walk in - Lake Thomas Edison to Graveyard Lake. ...

drive up 168 till you reach Huntington Lake. the road around the lake will lead you to a horse stable, park the car and there's the trail head. The 1st and last mile are teh toughest, very steap, in between it gets easier, but mostly all uphill. Very nice scenery, mostly in the shade of trees except for the top peak. Great views, weather was perfec, gets a little windy at the top....

This was a great hike, just the right mix of shade and spectacular views.  Sierra vistas to the north, east and then south over to the domes of the San Joaquin River drainage.  Great lunch spots along side one of several lakes that at this time of year were perfect for swimming. The trail is fairly open pine forest following an old, blocked off part of Norris road.  It quickly crosses Norris Creek;...

short easy hike, mostly shaded, ends at the waterfalls. To get to the trailhead, take highway 168 East, past Shaver Lake, about a mile after China Peak (old Sierra Summit) ski resort, right before you get to Huntington Lake, you make a right at (37.23804, -119.15984), small sign says "Rancheria Falls". Drive up the side rode until you get to a small parking lot and another sign.

This was a 8.2 mile hike to Twin Lakes in the Kaiser Wilderness of the Sierra National Forest. Potter Pass Cutoff (Kaiser Pass Rd) is located near Huntington Lake. This is a moderate hike (though the elevation at 8000 ft makes it seem tough). We started out from the Potter Pass Cutoff parking lot. The climb up to Potter Pass was steady but moderate. We passed through Sequoia's and pines, as well as...

Great place to hike within a one hour drive from Fresno.
The climb to the peak is worth the effort for the 360 degree views.
