The ups and downs of the Blue Mountains

I've now done this walk four times and the last time I trekked it I added in Slack's Steps mainly out of curiousity. The walk starts at the National Park centre and then descends hundreds of stairs to Empress Falls and the National Pass Trail.Once you're on the trail it's fairly level and the walk takes you up close and personal to the base of the cliffs and their overpowering presence. At times the...

Furber Steps at Katoomba

the last part of this trip was on the steepest incline railway in the world. so that really screws with the average speed. that said, i mean, i wasn't really going for high speed. granted i was walking faster than everyone else i came across, but i wasn't, like, thinking "i need to do 4mph!" or anything daft. these walks almost killed me!

Narrowneck Katoomba NSW

Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia

An easy track with spectacular views virtually along the entire track. Narrow neck is a narrow cliff top with views of Mt Solitary and The Ruined Castle to the left and The Jamison Valley then Kanangra Boyd Wilderness on the right. Then at the end of the track a spectacular view of Lake Burragorong, the water catchment area for Warragamba dam. It was a hot day and despite it being an easy ride,...

Having seen the Blue Mountains in the distance yesterday while cycling in the Olympic Park I felt the urge to go and have a closer look. So a train ride to Katoomba was in order. The train travels up into the mountains There just was one change of train involved and I arrived soon after 11am.Knowing that I had some significant walking ahead I topped up my reserves with a lovely coffee and...

3 weeks ago I did my first real exploration of the Lindemans track, due to some poor planning on my behalf we had to make a fairly rushed ascent of Gladstone Pass in the twilight. So today I decided to go back and allow myself plenty of time to have a good look around, including scoping out Dash's Cave and the old Gladstone Mine.I was a little later setting out (having hard...
