Twelve of us rode the tram from Teton Village to the 10,446' summit to hike to Marion Lake. Shortly after the start of the return to the tram, I turned left (east) to hike down the mountain through Granite Canyon, emerging at the Granite Canyon Parking Area in Grand Teton National Park.
This trip was to find the tricky path to Mesquite Creek from Phillips pass after a couple of misfire attempts. A classic trip in the Jedidiah Smith Wilderness of Targhee National Forest. Gorgeous meadows, Grand Teton view, babling streams, wildflowers, moose, raptors and a peaceful experience. A car shuttle over Teton Pass is necessary to connect the loop.
Departed Whitegrass R.S.; hiked to Mt. Hunt Divide with rain/snow mix in upper 500' elev.; on Valley Trail at NW edge of Phelps we took the new trail through the former LS Rockefeller area to the parking lot at the LSR VC.
A dayhike up to Ski Lake, and then on further up the canyon until we ran into too much snow at 9500'. Killer views on a gorgeous day.
Wonderful wild flowers abound in this hike to the top of Taylor Mountain.
