Community Trips
Two day ascent of the highest peak in contiguous US.
On trail by 5:30 AM. Headlamps until the ledges, and then made easy time up to Iceburg Lake. Drinking 2 liters at each lake. Started up toward notch from Iceburg and followed the narrow gully on the left, instead of the larger scree gully on the right. Probably more class 3 climbing than expected at this stage, still fun. On day one we hiked in on the Mountaineer's Route of Whitney and camped at Iceberg Lake, climbed East Buttress (aka Pee Wee Route) on Mount Whitney the next day, Fishhook Arete on Mount Russell the day after, and finally hiked out on day four.
4 person climb of the West side of Mt Williamson. Started just west of Lone Pine, up Shepherds Pass across Williamson Bowl and then up the West Face. The final section is a pretty easy class 3 climb for about 50'. Not much exposure for that section. Overall this is a long hike. It is 11 miles to Shepherd's Pass and lots of vertical. Probably the toughest part is the Williamson bowl....
One of the hardest climbs in USA. I and my wife did this route just before the road was closed for winter. We climbed VERY slow, so it wasn't too hard for me. The scenary of Owens Valley and Sierra was breathtaking..

My wife, friend and I all hiked this section of the JMT, whose southern terminus is Mount Whitney.
