A great little hike for little ones. I learned the hard way that you want to start your kids off with easy hikes so they learn to love it. (A failed attempt to hike up Wunderlich led to my daughter's famous quote: "Daddy, I've noticed that not everyone in this restaurant had to hike before they get to eat pancakes." So true.)
Located in Huddart Park, the Redwood Trail is I great hike to do with small children. (My girls are 5 and 7 years old.) Not much elevation gain, lots to see and even helpful labels along the way to identify plants and trees. Plus it's close to Buck's for a great post-hike brunch.
Nice place for short walking or for running
Started near ranger sta. in Huddart Park, ran down to the trail which goes up to the water tank, crossed King's Mtn. Rd. and into water district's land, then up to the Wide Spot in the Road (Huddart Pk.). Went down the road, crossed over to the Dean's Trail and ran all the way down, past the bathrooms, across the lawn to the Ranger Station.
