Having not been to High Point State Park in over 20 years, we decided to venture there for a 4th of July hike at the suggesstion of our Doctor. I'm back! This was the first hike of the season for me. It felt great even though this wasn't one of my favorite hikes. But it did get me on the Shawangunk Ridge Trail for the first time.
Connections
Sunday, May 6th, 2012: To me, one of the best things about the
'people-part' of this trail experience is making connections -
connections with people I've only met via the internet then meet on the
trail, connections between people I meet, who've met other people I've
met ... even just being able to read the messages left by trail friends
in shelter log books.
But today I made the first *real* connection...
High and Low
High Point and low points - I loved them both today (Monday, May 7,
2012). High Point State Park, with its impressive obelisk standing on
the highest point in New Jersey was the feature of my morning walk.
And then in the afternoon I began the trek along the NJ/NY state line,
which included a 0.2 mile board-walk over a swamp on puncheon.
