Great day for a hike near Harpers Ferry. We started out on the Green marked trail then changed to the Red trail to take us to the overlook.

Where two rivers converge. Thomas Jefferson said once " this is one of the most beautiful locations in America." Who am I to disagree.

Walked across the train/pedestrian bridge to the Maryland side, and up the Maryland Heights trail. Great views of three states from the overlook. On the return we walked down to the water on the WV park side, to wade and cool off. A LOT of broken glass in the water, exercise caution or wear shoes in the water.

This was a great 'fall' visit - the colors, the way the little town is set up - there is so much history in such a little place ... the water, hills, and colors were all majestic!

If you want to see all of the sights around Hapers Ferry, get there early in the day. Most of the shops and historic venues close at 5. By 7 in the evening, the park and town are quiet. And bring a swim suit if you would like to take a dip in the river in the afternoon. Before going there, I did not realize Harpers Ferry was such an active spot for swimming, canoeing, and Kayaking. And make the Appalachian Trail Conservancy office your first stop in town. They can give you good information about what to see in town and the park, and they will show you a good trail to follow for your journey.

Great place for biking, hiking, getting on the AT and for a a lot of history. Adjacent KOA campground is a good place to stop for the night. Good BBQ next to the train station. Hike up to Jefferson Rock for a fantastic view!

Great scenic hikes available. Harpers Ferry Lower town is filled with history and actors that are historically dressed during the time of the civil war. The Maryland Heights trail is very popular for its scenic overlook. Harpers Ferry National Historic Park is family friendly and dog friendly. Enjoy a day hiking or picnicking.

Had a great day with the family. Hike to the overlook was mildly challenging for the small ones, but they were amazed once they reached the destination.

I have been to Harpers Ferry a hundred times and it never gets old. Tons of trails, overlooks, and a roaring river. You can spend a day or a whole week venturing around the town. If you're a history buff this is a must see!!!!

Very nice place to visit. It is well maintained with plenty of historic areas to explore. The C & O Canal bike path is also there.
