Note: This is a private trail. We did not know it was private until we finished the hike and someone informed us.On our first full day in Honolulu we wanted to go on a hike. Fuzz, Solon, Ariel, Louis, David, Debby and I decided to go to Hanauma Bay. The views were just spectacular--light clear blue water with the Koko crater behind. After we left the paved road the trail got very steep...
This is the Koko Head loop trail around the rim of hanauma bay. Not to be confused with koko head crater across kalanianiole.
It is paved up until the top where the radio stations are and then it is all loose dirt trail from there.
I did this midday with 22lbs of baby and water on my back. If you don't like direct sunlight this wouldn't be a great hike for midday...
This trail will take you down a steep descent which will then connect in with a trail road that leads down to a large flat where fisherman set up. The turn around area is at a wooden posted cemented into the ground date 1943. The view here is pretty amazing as you stand at the mouth of the bay, and on clear days can see other islands and down to Peles' Chair....
