Short, easy hike to Vermont's tallest waterfall! My wife and I took our 13 yr old and 8 yr old on this Mothers Day hike. The trail is fairly well marked with blue paint markings on the trees. The hike was our first using Trails software on our IPhone and uploading it to the Trails site. If your in Manchester Center and looking for a short easy hike to a beautiful, tall waterfall...
Nice easy hike up to Little Rock Pond and then the loop trail around the Pond. Excellent hike for kids and dogs with much access to water along the way and obviously at the pond.
A late start put us on the cliffs at sunset which was perfect for photos but meant we had to make the return trip by headlamp. Contrary to the suggested route, we climbed up via the Aunt Jenny trail, the steeper of the two options saving the more gradual Rattlesnake Cliffs Trail for the return trip in hopes of making it easier on fragile knees. It seems the strategy worked as I...
Hike starting at Stratton-Arlington Road (a.k.a. Arlington-Stratton Road) by East Branch of Deerfield River. North on :LT/At to STratton summit and firetower, then continue North on LT/AT to Stratton Pond junction with Stratton Pond Trail. Take SP Trail back to SA Road and hike along road back to car.Beautiful day 35 in morning much warmer in early afternoon, no snow cover to speak of, wind was whipping at top of fire tower,...
Some of the photos get cropped in the slideshow but you can see them larger in the "see all pictures..." link at the end of this story. It was a rainy afternoon to start out but I was long over due on paddling so I pulled on rain gear and set off for Chittenden Reservoir. Just as I put in, a curious loon was inspecting me as I secured my spray skirt. I...
Off early from work on a Thursday afternoon so I put in at the reservoir where it was quite windy. The first part of the journey was somewhat sheltered from the wind but the trip back to the landing met with stiff wind and some waves. The boat was a Wilderness Systems Tempest 16.5 and handled the waves with ease. I put my camera in movie mode and strapped it under the...
I've skied Killington Peak many times. Have a house nearby and love to hike, bike and ski the area. Hiked to Pico via the Long Trail but never all the way up to KP. Well, this time I decided to push myself and scale the vertical trail. It starts off like a walk in the woods but ends up grappling up rock to the top. Took me five hours up and back...
