Peakbagging | 15.2 miles
This route begins at Newfound Gap and goes on the Appalachian Trail to Clingman's Dome (6,643 feet). Along the way it also crosses Mt. Collins (6,188 feet). Both are part of the South Beyond 6000. On the day of my hike, I had to posthole in snow above my knee from just beyond Mt. Collins to Clingman's Dome. Because of that and the lateness of the day, I chose to walk back...

If I had stayed another night I would have been hiking...

clearing downed trees | 10.3 miles
This was one of the rough days we had clearing downed trees from the hiking trails.  See comment made on 11APR2009 for more info on this section of the Fodderstack Trail.  This trail has been cleared of downed trees as well as some smaller work.  The group that I am with that has done this work is the Southern Appalachian Back Country Horsemen.  This group donates one day a week or more...

Pets are not allowed in the forest. It follows a stream down to Gatlinburg and is realitively level all the way. There are some old house ruins with fire places and and old cemetary.Easy walk if you are looking for something other then the tourest...
