We hiked some of the most popular slots in the Escalante area.Peek-A-Boo Gulch is a beautifully sculptured slot that runs for about half a mile to a wide, sandy wash. Spooky Gulch is a great slot canyon to hike through beautifully eroded Navajo sandstone.Dry Fork itself is not a slot but is a beautiful, narrow canyon that offers several miles of hiking opportunity.

My winter time neighbors/friends live in the higher elevations of Utah.  When I went to visit them last summer this was one of the many destinations to which we went.  The hike is about 5 1/2 miles.  There isn't much climb in elevation that I am used to with my hikes around Tucson.  However my legs got a good workout never the less as the trail was pretty sandy.  The trail takes...

Zebra Slot Canyon

Overview: Zebra Slot Canyon is a very fun, family-friendly (we brought our 10-month-old) hike in south-central Utah. It's less popular than Peek-a-Boo Canyon or Spooky Canyon, which means you don't have to deal with as many crowds. The hike is not as scenic as some, but it's still very pretty and very much worth the hike.My GPS quit working part way through the hike, so here are the actual statistics:Length: 5.12 miles...

Upper Harris Wash - Zebra Slot This was a great hike across the desert well worth the 2+ hrs to get to the slot.  These pictures cannot even show how beautiful it really was.  Zebra cuts through pinkish stripped Navajo Sandstone which you can see in the pictures.

This is a classic short slot canyon hike. Peek-a-boo is pure fun. It requires scrambling up ledges, under chockstones and into arches. Spooky is deeper, darker and tighter. It is the narrowest canyon "normal" people can hike through. Everyone will have to turn sideways and scoot to make it through. People of average ...

Story: On Friday afternoon, after finishing Zebra Slot Canyon, we met up with the rest of our group. We set up camp at a really nice campsite that was close but still off the beaten path (37°27'57.76"N, 111°12'21.77"W). Then when it cooled down a little, we went and hiked through Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons.    The roads are pretty rough, but we still drove our little Nissan Altima all the way to the trailhead (37°28'35.57"N, 111°13'13.07"W). We started hiking around 3:40pm. The first...

Story: Saturday morning we got up at 6:00 to have breakfast and get ready for the day. Anthony and Zac had done Brimstone on a previous trip, and it took them 8 hours to complete lower, middle, and upper Brimstone Gulch and return to the mouth of the canyon. We figured it would take an additional hour and twenty minutes to get to and from the mouth of the canyon, for a total of about 9.5 hours. We...

Lower Calf Creek Falls

Calf Creek Falls is one of the most well known and unique features in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The trail follows Calf Creek to the 126' high falls. The hike is 6 miles round trip and takes average hikers 3-4 hours. Elevation change on the trail is minimal, but the trail is sandy and walking can be strenuous, especially in hot weather. In contrast, the falls provide a delightfully cool, shady haven...
