A wonderful loop hike in the Goat Rocks Wilderness. We chose a clockwise path from Berry Patch trailhead and hike in the morning shadows of Goat Ridge. We stopped for lunch just above the mostly still frozen Goat Lake, and we're delighted to spot some mountain goats on the rocks above and behind the lake.Although it was August the abundant alpine wildflowers made it seem like spring. We met quite a few people backpacking up as...

This weekend Emily and I returned to what has become our annual favorite hike in the Pacific Northwest, Goat Rocks.  But, this year we brought along our housemates Kevin and Alexa for their first alpine camping trip, and first real excursion into a remote wilderness in the Northwest.  They were pretty amped to go for a long time and even made a trip to REI to make sure they had sleeping...

Condition of Access Road (5270): The access road was in pretty good shape for the most part. There are sections that have significant potholes, and one or two places with some serious ruts, however. At the Butter Creek bridge, there is a sign posted that reads "CAUTION - HOLE AT END OF BRIDGE". While a careful driver could probably make it up there in a compact 2wd car, something with decent ground clearance and suspension is highly recommended! Trail...

This was a much-needed get-away hike, even if it was only a short one.  It had been a while since I was able to get out on the trail, so I was glad my friends Mike and Andrea had the weekend available.  We couldn't have asked for much better weather for hiking.  It was mostly clear, but still cool enough to enjoy the workout for someone like me who is carrying a...

For a last-minute, spur-of-the-moment trip, this one turned out pretty well. An old high-school buddy got in touch with me Thursday, and we scrambled to make tis work out for Friday.  We got a late start on the day (on the trail around 3pm), but were able to make it to the lake before dark. The hike in was dry and warm, but pretty decent weather overall. We had great visibility for taking pictures all afternoon....

I have been dying to visit Goat Rocks in Washington for quite some time now and this weekend finally got the chance.  I wanted to time it so that we would miss the deep snow at elevation but the wildflowers would be in full bloom, while also missing mosquito season hopefully.  Our plan was to hike up the Goat Creek Valley, camp overnight at Goat Lake then return via Goat Ridge.  In...

Fantastic trip! This is a hike that you really need to check out the snow levels before you go. We went in the beginning of August and snow levels were finally up to a level where you could get to Goat Lake. If you are lucky and have clear weather you will have some great views of the Goat Rocks and Mt Adam's
