One of the nicest small and historic towns in the U.S. The roads N and NW of town are some of the best road cycling anywhere while Gambrill Mountain boasts the Frederick Watershed that is one of the highest ranked mountain biking locales in the country. The downtown has a 75 block historic district with many amazing homes. The town was home to Frederick Scott Key, the author of the U.S. National Anthem and Roger Brooke Taney, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court that decided, in 1857, the Dredd Scott decision that destroyed his reputation and sped the process that led to the Civil War. The town boasts many restaurants including Volt which is ranked by the Washingtonian magazine as the best in Maryland, while Brewer's Alley boasts some of the best craft beers in the state.

Fredrick 2009 Half Marathon. Great course through the urban areas of downtown Fredrick to the rural backroads! The finish was on the hourse race track which was nice!
