We ascended by the Falling Waters Trail, crossed the ridge, and descended by the Greenleaf/Old Bridle Path trails.Recent trip reports had us a little skittish in regards to snow, but it appears a lot of melting has occurred since the May 13 report.  The snow was very patchy and easily traversed with bare boots. The weather was perfect today--warm, sunny, and a gentle breeze. Visibility on the ridge trail was just about perfect--Mount...

11.2 miles
We took a 3 day, 2 night walk through the White Mountains.  The trip started with a short 1.5 mile hike up to the AMC Hut at Lonesome Lake.  The following day, we continued up to Kinsman Pond via the Fishin Jimmy trail, and setup camp on one of the AMC Tent platforms. In the afternoon, we took a day hike up to the peak of North Kinsman.  The night got wet, windy,...

Mt. Lafayette Snow Hike

7.7 miles
We arrived at the trailhead to a "brisk" -3 degree start. Conditions were favorable, as we had blue skies and minimal wind. This was my first winter hike, and unfortunately, I was ill prepared. My normal backpacking gear did not cut it! I like to drink lots of water when I hike, so my spirits were damped when 20 minutes in, my camelback tube froze! Ugh. No worries - had another supply...

Anti-clockwise over Little Haystack, Lincoln and Lafayette. The weather was absolutely horrible with sub-zero temperatures and very strong winds. Didn't make it any less fun though - although I couldn't enjoy any of the view...!!

Climbing Mount Lafayette
by Heartburn on Jul 31, 2010

Quite a rough walk on terribly eroded paths. Starts of with a climb along a small river. Many falls. Then a boring stretch steeply climbing through woods. A nice stretch along the gresent from Little Haystack to Mt. Lafayette and then down to a mountain hut and further back to the trailhead.
