Switchback Adventures trip to Gold Lake

Little Jamison (historical), California, United States
19.6 miles
Two days camping and trail running organized by SwitchBack Adventures. Base camp on Gold Lake. One loop run around the lake on Saturday (about 10 miles) and then a run to the top of the Sierra Buttes on Sunday (about 9 miles). Incredible views all around. Gold Lake was cold but felt great after both runs. Some great 4WD opportunities, dirt biking, canoeing and hiking as well. Switchback also showed us a...

This was an amazing trip and on the third attempt we finally found Volcano Lake at the bottom of the Sierra Buttes. It was a tuff hike up the hill for the crew (Erik, Monika, Adrienne, Steven, Arnie, Peter) but we made it. The view to the Lower Sardine Lake was the best and we had a lot of fun. This was really a good trip for the last...

Just a quick hike up to Upper Sardine Lakes after we wisely aborted hiking to the top of Sierra Buttes fire lookout at 5:30pm.

Beautiful hike to the Sierra Buttes. A bit difficult due to snow cover. It was my first time here, so finding the trail buried under the snow resulted in a number of wrong turns. The views are fantastic!Full write-up:http://tmeekins.blogspot.com/2011/08/sierra-buttes-july-2011.html

A very nice, short hike in the Sierra Buttes / Graeagle / Gold lakes region.  The two lakes are simply beautiful.

The hike we did here was the Sierra Buttes Fire Lookout. It was a beautiful and very scenic hike. It rivals the Donner Peak and Mount Judah hike we had done the previous week. We chose to follow jhannon's Everytrail trip. We parked at the end of the paved road, although we found that many people drove on the gravel road a little farther to another parking area. The trail starts climbing up right away, but that's the only way you can get to the top. The stairs to the Fire Lookout were a little scary, but they were sturdy and you could hold on as tight as you needed to. From the top you really get a spectacular panoramic view.
