Cold cold windy day but skiing was awesome.  Just too cold to enjoy as much as I normally love skiing.   20 mph wind up the mtn and 40 mph skiing downhill into the wind.   15 degrees or colder.Bill

Ski Cabin Mt. with Dave
by KarlDiefenbach on Feb 17, 2011
Cortland, West Virginia, United States
7.5 miles
We drove up to the parking lot on the edge of the sods from Dave's cabin.  We hiked up to the top of Cabin Mountain and then skied north to 'Shroom rock where we stopped for lunch.  The view and sun were great at the rock.  Then we skied down the "bowl" in some great snow and back up to the top of the mountain where we hit trail 521.

Dave, Greg, and I skied around on Cabin Mt.  We skied east toward the sods on trails which had turned to streams on our return.  We skied up to 'Shroom rock and got caught in a shower before we bailed down to the cabin.

A nice loop hike that can be done in a day or over 2 days backpacking.  We started at Bear Rocks parking area and descended into the valley.  We continued up Raven Ridge Trail until we hit the Rocky Ridge Trail.  The views at this point are magnificent.  Along the Rocky Ridge Trail is a great place to stop and have lunch.  After lunch we continued along Rocky Ridge and took Dobbin...

Monongahela NF: Dolly Sods Wilderness
by dhacker on Feb 10, 2012
Davis, West Virginia, United States
15.1 miles
A below freezing adventure in non-stop snow accumulating about 8 inches.  A few river crossings with wet boots including one where we basically jumped in and immediate started a fire on the other side to drive our stuff off, a couple off trail experiences to cut down distances, as well as some nighttime hiking in order to stay warm.
