This area is known for its amazing geological formations as well as the wonderful views of the San Francisco Bay Area. This area is great for picnics and is surrounded by oak trees and sandstone formations.

Outing of the East Bay Casual Hiking group in the Walnut Creek Shell Ridge Open Space. We started at the trailhead at the end of Rockspring Pl. and took the southern Twin Ponds Loop and Borges Ranch trails to the ranch. After our lunch stop there we returned on the northern half of the Twin Ponds loop trail.
Outing of the East Bay Casual Hiking group starting at the end of Rockspring Place and going through the Shell Ridge Open Space past Borges Ranch to Castle Rock Park. After a lunch stop we returned on slightly different trails passing by the Twin Ponds area.
East Bay Tuesday hiking group outing in the Shell Ridge Open Space starting at the trailhead on Rudgear Rd. at Sunburst Ct. and following a rough Figure-8 route.
East Bay Casual Hiker's outing in Diablo Foothills Regional Park. We started at the Livorna Rd. Staging area and took the Foothills, Hazard Hill, and Franco Ranch trails to the Twin Ponds loop trail and then to Borges Ranch for our lunch stop. The return was via the Mokelumna Coast-Crest, Buckeye Ravine, and Stonegate trails back to the Foothills trail.
Outing by the East Bay Casual Hikers in the Shell Ridge Open Space. We started at the trailhead near the end of Livorna Rd. and hiked over to Borges Ranch. After a stop for snacks we returned on a different set of trails to form a figure-8 overall path.
Lots of open space so best for fall or spring. The trailhead has no restrooms, but there is a city park on Livorna Ave about .5 miles back. Near the end of the hike you will be on paved road. You will need to look for a marker about 15 ft on the right, as the trail will go up a small rise. Once you get to the top of the rise, head straight down to the obvious dirt...
