Popular Trips in Desolation Wilderness
I would call this hike moderate, at least the route we took. We took the Pyramid Creek trail and tried to follow the "Horsetail Falls, Lake Tahoe" Everytrail Guide by Trailspotting. But this gave us an awesome view of the falls with the water rushing by us. And it was good place to rest and eat a snack while enjoying the view.
Hike up Mount Tallac from the Mount Tallac Trailhead.
By far, one of the most beautiful hikes we've done: 4 waterfalls, trekking on huge granite slabs, dam built in 1917 (feeding American Lake), and hopping huge boulders. Fantastic!
Medium hike from Stanford Camp. Thunderhead built up and dropped just as I returned to camp. Took the shortcut back but it was a little muddy.

Marmmot's seem to be everywhere on this hike. Note: I only record hikes going one way. Therefore, this hike was more like 10 miles, contrary to what the statistics show here.
Our hike started at Wright's Lake, over Rockbound Pass, past Lake Schmidell, and finally to 4-Q Lakes. The high was fairly mellow with moderate elevation gain. The trail is mostly granite so your feet end up hurting fairly bad by the time you're done.
