Leaving the Salt Creek, we continued driving north on the hwy and eventually turned west towards Stovepipe Wells, passed Devil’s Cornfield, and Sand Dunes was on the right. We had planned ahead so we could see the sunset from the sand dunes. As we walked further away from the parking lot, the sand dunes was getting smoother and higher. Some of the dunes could get so high that we had to take...

On day 2 of our trip to Death Valley National Park we headed to Fall Canyon for a long day hike through canyon
narrows and to do some bouldering. We explored the first 4 1/2 miles of
the canyon gorge that lead us through spectacular deep, colorful, and
winding corridors.
The full trip report is at this blog post.
A short hike up Telephone Canyon in Death Valley National Park. It's high clearance 2WD to the trailhead from Emigrant Canyon road. Telephone Arch is small but interesting, Telephone Spring is long dry but the remains of the mill are interesting. A nice side canyon to the south with some narrows, and a few side washes one has a nice waterfall grotto perhaps 25 feet tall.
Leaving the Furnace Creek area, driving up north of Hwy 190 to Stovepipe Wells, before the hwy turning west to Stovepipe Wells, we stopped over at the Salt Creek.
This was a ½ mile boardwalk along a small stream. It was just unbelievable to see very shallow running water forming a small creek in the middle of the hot desert. The most amazing part was to see so many small pupfish swimming very...
Spent the night at the Stovepipe Wells Lodge, which is one of the two lodging sites within Death Valley. The facility there is considered good in such a remote desert; with air conditioning and running water. Accommodation outside of the park is not really an option, as I didn’t see any towns or motels nearby when driving from Las Vegas. The 3 hrs drive from Vegas was basically along an area of...
There is a bit driving from the Mosaic Canyon to the Fall Canyon. Turned north from 190 to Scotty Castle Rd, and turned into a 3-mile dirt road on Titus Canyon Road. We didn’t have much time left so we only prepared to have a short hike on the Titus Canyon trail.
At the parking lot, there was a ‘Do Not Enter’ sign on the north and a hiker sign on the...
Didn’t know what to expect in the Titus Canyon Narrows but didn’t feel like leaving the park without taking a look at the Titus Canyon. Once I returned back to the parking lot from the Fall Canyon, I picked up my pace and entered the month of the Titus Canyon. The scenery was more or less the same as the Fall Canyon, except the hike was much easier now. The dirt road...
A friend of Anne's flew out to LA to meet us and we drove up to Death Valley for a couple of days. It happened to be the weekend of the 49ers, which has lots of activities going on celebrating the history of Death Valley, including the finish of a 100 mile wagon train commemorating the unlucky first white settlers to find the place.
