Popular Trips in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
started at penny pines and checked out sub peak on PCT section on the way there.
started instead at the entrance to laguna campground, up to chula vista reservoir, then came down steep overgrown trail on the west side of lightning ridge.
started at the oasis spring road. the old dirt road is very overgrown in spots with several fallen trees to navigate too. and the part where the road ends and the trail begins, wellllllll, "the road" is just a trail and "the trail" is gone! just a few signs of where crazy hikers have bushwacked through all that. so i went trampling down the steep canyon and i miraculously saw the pumphouse....
Amazing views from kwaaymii point trail where the old sunrise highway was cut into the cliffs, edge of trail drops off thousands of feet! dirt road from kwaaymii point to garnet mountain ends about half way there contrary to any map. went up to shoulder of garnet to look for a trail to garnet. had to bushwack through chaparral and follow game trails the rest of the way. got a tick!
Found a few, hid a few with Chuy! and Joe. These tracks are nearly identical to SDMarc's trip, except we went the reverse way. Much more gradual going up. Great day to be in the woods. No wildlife, though!
Started at Sweetwater bridge and did a loop on each side of the park. Great winter trail run!
Watch the blue dot trace first the school camp/park store loop, then the Sweetwater Bridge lot route. The area that is common to both are the highest points on the loops, and the wide meadows, where I most often spot deer. For geocachers, all 6 of the caches in the area lie along the common trails.
This is the GPS track of the described trip. I borrowed the GPX file from my friend Zevensphin (Shannon), as I am between GPS receivers at the moment. Thanks, Zev.I wrote up this trip here.
