After a week of getting psyched up for a nice end of February hike to Chantry Flats, Lori and I loaded up the truck and headed to  Sierra Madre. Once up to Chantry Flats, it was immediately apparent that this was the weekend everyone in the San Gabriel valley was using their E ticket ride to mother nature. There was nowhere to park unless you wanted to burn more than a couple of uphill...

Ever had days where you and your partner just can't seem to communicate? You know, when a simple comment or observation about something insignificant turns into a full blown argument? That was our Saturday. We had no real plans for the weekend and we were both agitated and feed up with a bathroom remodel that should have been completed more than a month ago. Earlier in the week I had mentioned we...

Hiked to Ontario Peak from the Ice House Trailhead.  It was beautiful weather with clouds rolling in for the hike down, making for a cool descent.  Up at the ridge and peak you could see the inland area was hidden by cloud cover.

Icehouse Canyon Valentine's Day Hike
by Leighton on Feb 14, 2010
Dells (historical), California, United States
3.7 miles
On Valentine’s Day, we had planned to join the Hike Guy’s Hike Club for a hike up Elsmere and Whitney Canyons to check out the water falls. But, our timing was off that morning and with an hour’s drive to the trailhead, we wouldn’t have made the 9:30 AM meet-up time. Instead, around 10:00 AM we left for Icehouse Canyon. Despite warnings of heavy traffic and delays in the Mount Baldy area,...

At 12:25PM on a beautiful 50 degree April day, we arrived at the Ice House parking lot. As we headed up the trail,  there was a lot of water flowing in the stream and unlike our February 28th trip here: javascript:nicTemp(); the trail was clear of snow. Today the plan was to take the Chapman Trail to the Cedar Glen camp area. Wow, what a surprise! Chapman Trail is great, Ray! There is a lot...
