On day 2 we hiked 5 miles to a dead end and had to go back the same way to get back to marked trails. We never did make it to the "Indian Staircase". We were just glad to make it to the Gladie Learning Center, where we could call someone for a ride back to our car.
This is a 5.5 mile loop in the Clifty Wilderness next to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. The Wildcat Trail (#228) goes downhill for a couple of miles to intersect with the Swift Camp Creek Trail (#219). From the intersection, the trail follows Swift Camp Creek, for a mile before starting the 450 foot climb over the next mile. At the 219 trailhead, complete the loop by walking 1.2 miles back...
