Carlsbad State Beach, located on the San Diego Coast, is one of San Diego’s most popular beaches. It is a small 14-acre beach located at the foot of coastal bluffs and offers swimming, surfing, scuba diving, fishing and beachcombing. This small beach is located at the foot of coastal bluffs, south of the town on Carlsbad. The Tamarack Avenue area is a favorite surf spot. The reef provides gentle waves, perfect for long and short board surfing. Certain areas are set aside for swimming only.
A seawall promenade stretches from Pine Street to Tamarack Avenue and offers views of Agua Hedionda Lagoon. From the walkway, visitors may watch marbled godwits and whimbrels troll the beach and gulls, cormorants and pelicans fly over the waves. Marine mammals such as dolphins, sea lions and harbor seals splash offshore.

Picnic Area: Tamarack Surf Beach. Two of five picnic tables on the paved walkway are generally accessible. High-low drinking fountains are accessible. Restrooms are old and not wheelchair accessible. Parking includes four designated accessible spaces.

California State Parks is implementing service reductions in order to meet Department budget cuts this fiscal year. Service reductions implemented Fall 2009 through Summer 2010 include reduced lifeguard service and trash cleanup. Visitors are encouraged to 'Pack it in, Pack it out', so the beach remains free of trash. These service reductions are designed to ensure that California State Parks achieve cost savings, minimize disruption to visitors as much as possible, and maintain revenue at the highest level possible.
