This is our August trip to Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). It was our first, but not last, trip to BWCA. It began early morning Friday, Aug 22, when our outfitter dropped us off at the entry point on Lake One and ended 5 days later at Snowbank Lake. I had pre-loaded the route on my Garmin eTrax Vista GPS, which proved helpful on many occasions. The track on the map was recorded by the GPS during...
Day hike from our campsite on Rose Lake to the stairway falls.
Paul, Bill, and Myself in a Souris River. Quetico 18.5 on a 6 day adventure.
Ken drove up to the trailhead on Friday afternoon arriving around 5:30PM. By the time we suited up and headed out it was around 6PM and the sun was starting to set. We had about 2/3 of a full moon, so we trekked along on the frozen Cascade River until about 10PM. The moon was bright enough on the snow that we only used headlamps briefly when we came to obstructions on...

Someone has...

Wednesday we traveled south to the point where the logging road entered the wilderness. We then retraced our steps and traveled east past Meat Lake to Clark Lake.

We had 5 goals beginning this trip.
1. Enjoy early spring in the Great North Woods.
2. Discover the condition of the old logging roads.
3. Learn to use our GPS units to navigate in the wilderness.
4. Determine if these trails/old...
