A super fun trail with a long climb at the beginning follow by a fun technical descent.
My wife and I took a short 2 mile walk by the river. I brought a camera and GPS so I could try geotagging the images,.
This is a little known road that follows the Virgin river along the side of the cliff just as it starts going in to the Virgin River Gorge. If you follow it all the way to the end, you will be 100 feet from the top of a plateau. If you can make it up to the top, you can make a round trip. I usualy go clockwise and make the climb....
I was not comfortable crossing the Virgin river alone, flows were listed at 144 CFS at the Bloomfield gague station.http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ut/nwis/uv/?site_no=09413200Also best to park at Virgin River Recreation Area, they honor national park passes. The "upper" parking area off I-15 is cut off by a barbed wire fence but it does overlook the entrance to sullivan's canyon.
The river was completely dry this time around, the Streamflow of 39 cfs measured at 2012-06-23 08:45:00 MDT 09413200 00060 VIRGIN RIVER NEAR BLOOMINGTON, UTFor Realtime Data at this station: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=09413200 Last time I tried this the streamflow was 144 cfs and the river was not even passable.
