Bastrop State Park -- Geocaching the Lost Pines Trail

8.5 miles
I decided to hike this long loop and find geocaches along the way.  It's marked as an 8.5 mile loop and that's what my track shows.  This is a moderate hike with easy ups and downs as well as roots and rocks to watch for.  Definitely a great cool weather hike in the woods.  This hike takes you through the primitive camping / hiking area.  It is less traveled than the shorter...

Colorado River Refuge-Dragonfly Trail

On Feb 18, Carrie, Dale and I walked the tract from North to South, on the East side of the drainage. For the most part we stayed near the stream, and beat our way through quite a bit of brush. However, deer trails gave the walk some definition. The understory is very green this year. On the lower 1/3 of the trail, there are a number of nice views (potentially) of the...

It was a wonderful trip. McKinney Roughs was a wonderful park...trails for hiking or equestrians, well marked and plenty of water for the horses. The trails weren't difficult even though some where rocky and steep but there were no downed trees to cross over, no creeks to ford...just great looking trails with 4 ecosystems that were very distinct. I will be going back! We stayed at the Happy Horse Hotel that caters to those riding the park...great place to stay with the horses, comfortable and affordable. All in all our trip was terrific!
