We start on Saturday morning to backpack about 9 miles into Capulin Canyon, where we encounter a rattlesnake and a small bear. Sunday we take the more westerly trails out again.

It was Veterans Day and the National Park Service was waiving entrance fees. I took the day off work and visited Bandelier National Monument. Bandelier is located near Los Alamos, but there is no easy way to get there from Albuquerque. I took the “shortcut”, straight over the mountain.
