Alpental to Snow Lake

Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, United States
Snowshoeing | 5.6 miles
It was a lovely day for a snowshoe adventure.  There were a lot of sun breaks, and the air was incredibly clear.  We hiked up near chair peak, then turned around and had lunch at the ridge overlooking Snow Lake.  On the way back, we took a shortcut by sledding down the hillside on our asses.  Super fun.

Yosemite Snowshoe: Dewey Point

Snowshoeing | 7.7 miles
This year, the family decided to spend the Easter weekend in Yosemite.  While looking for a good hike (trail not closed or covered in feet of snow, either a dozen+ miles or 1500+ feet or so, not something I've already done a bunch of times), I realized we'd be heading out the last weekend that Badger Pass was open -- giving me a great chance to finally go snowshoeing.  I asked around...

Yosemite Glacier Point Snow Camping
by oruwu on Feb 15, 2010
Yosemite West, California, United States
Snowshoeing | 23 miles
For my first snow camping experience, this trip to Yosemite proved to be educational and fun.Driving up on the day after Valentine's Day was moderately calm due to the lower volume of drivers during the winter. We took the road up to the Badger Pass Skiing Area and got out of the car to a brisk sunny day. Sunglasses were a must, and it felt like the start to any summer trip,...

Gold Creek Snowshoe Adventure
by loosenut on Feb 24, 2008
Hyak, Washington, United States
Snowshoeing | 6.7 miles
We picked a great day to go snowshoeing. There was a bunch of fresh snow on the ground, and once we got out far enough, we hardly ran into anybody. The scenery on this trip was excellent, especially toward the end. We had lunch on a giant snow-covered boulder that provided an excellent view of the valley.

Cub Lake Loop, Rocky Mountain National Park
by jimlarkey on Jan 11, 2011
Estes Park, Colorado, United States
Snowshoeing | 6.6 miles
Cub Lake Loop is a good acclimation hike for newcomers to Colorado.  The trek is fairly short, the elevation gain modest, and it's a repeat scenery.I've been in the area before, Tour de Lakes ™ , Fern Lake Trail, but had never been to Cub Lake itself.  So this was a bit of a discovery trip, particularily with the near zero temperatures and gusty winds that found their way into the...

Rubicon Springs (historical), California, United States
Snowshoeing | 5.3 miles
New Years Eve 2009/2010 trip. 2 of us on snowshoes, 1 on skis. Too us about 4 hours to arrive at Ludlow Hut, 3 hours to get out the next morning. We parked near the Rubicon OHV trailhead, asking neighbors if it was ok to park on their property. Otherwise - parking is a few miles further at the state park, or supposedly at Homewood ski resort (and using their free shuttle)Pretty...

Round Valley Loop - Mount San Jacinto
by scubaairpig on Feb 25, 2012
Desert View, California, United States
Snowshoeing | 5.3 miles
When you find yourself at the top of the tram, you might think, "now what?"  Well the Round Valley Loop is a great trail which will show you much of what the park has to offer.  As this trip is on snow shoes, some of the hike takes you off trail, so be sure to avoid cutting switchbacks.  Also avoid walking across the Meadow, as meadows are fragile ecosystems which need protection....

Bragg Creek, Alberta, Canada
Snowshoeing | 7.0 miles
Good hike with a bit of elevation change.  There has been very little new snow recently and there has also been a fair amount of melting.  The snowshoeing was a bit crunchy as a result.  Jake, our black lab, found a part of a dead rabbit and proceeded to swallow it as fast as he could before we could get it from him!  We saw two partridges (we think) and the dogs...

Upper Kananaskis Lake, North loop
by oldsole on Dec 02, 2010
Alberta, Canada
Snowshoeing | 3.0 miles
Awesome snow conditions, and we lucked out and got the calmest day ever for this trip. Exceptional views from the upper portion of the loop, look out into the white, island pocked alpine expanse that is the upper lake. Breathtaking scenery at the west edge of the loop, that re-routes you down an ancient rockslide slope, and offers a glimpse into the Kanaskis river valley.  Just enough trip for one thermos full...

Lessinia - Bocca di Selva Podesteria con le ciaspole
by lessiniagps on Dec 11, 2010
Lessinia, Veneto, Lessinia
Snowshoeing | 5.3 miles

Midstate trail from Rt12 to Muddy pond
by Thwoodman on Feb 26, 2011
Ashburnham, Massachusetts, United States
Snowshoeing | 4.7 miles
Walked south from Rt 12. Narrow but well blazed trail with no fresh tracks (human tracks that is but plenty of Coyote, Fox, Rabbit and Bobcat). After a mile and a half the trail briefly merges onto an unplowed road then turns South to the Muddy pond shelter.

Sugar Pine Point State Park - Yellow and Orange snowshoe trails
by Vaudesir on Jan 01, 2010

Snowshoeing | 4.3 miles
I like being able to hike on New Year's Day. This year, I was in Tahoe, and snowshoeing was the way to go. After Meeks Creek the day before, I decided to explore a small part of the Sugar Pine Point SP. Reading the "Tahoe Snowshoe Trails" guide book, it seemed that I would be able to hike both the Yellow and Orange trails. It was snowing (the wet kind of snow) when...

To Pear Lake Hut, SNP
by ejobshop on Apr 02, 2012
Sequoia National Park, California, United States
Snowshoeing | 18.8 miles
From car to Pear Lake Ski Hut and back. About 6 miles each way, but very long uphill climb to get to the hut (about 2000' up, from 7400 to 9400). We're not experienced snow-shoers, but are in decent shape... still took us 6 hours to go 6 miles. We got a bit lost at the end trying to find the hut: you can't see it, even when you get close, and...

Snowshoeing | 10.0 miles
Climbing Mt. St. Helens on a crystal clear sunny day in February may be the best possible way to spend a day out in the wilderness! Hard to imagine a more stunning and fulfilling experience.  Or one that's much harder.  (The last two miles to the summit gain nearly 4000' vertical feet!)  Of course, it all depends on the total cooperation of the weather gods.  Thankfully, everything came together for us, this...

Montgomery Pass Snowshoe
by jimlarkey on Jan 30, 2009
Willey Lumber Camp, Colorado, United States
Snowshoeing | 3.8 miles
This is the best 2-mile (one-way) hike in the area that yields some great views at the Pass.  The Montgomery Pass trailhead is across (west) Hwy 14, with parking at the Zimmerman Lake Trailhead.  2-seater out-house, with plenty of parking, and well plowed and maintained through the winter. The trailhead is at 10,000' and you will climb to 11,000' at the Pass.  You will be rewarded with some great views of North Park...
