Skied the Cosmiques again in very nice pow in perfect weather. I caught the second tram, had a coffee to give the pro skiers some time to test the line for avalanches (by charging and banging turns). Then, I dropped the slope of the arret and head over to the col des cosmiques at a leisurely tempo. While I was down climbing the upper couloir, Remy Écluse, a local extreme skier of 36-years,...

Bart, Rossko, Roger, and I hit up Tuck's, 4/17-4/19/2008--the weekend of the Son of Inferno Race. For Roger and me, it had been 20+ years since the last time we'd been there. It was Bart's second trip, and Rossko's first. See My Tux Trip website for the Tripp Report, with other photos.
This is a nice, short skitour for "beginners" who know how to ski in deep snow. As it is frequently done, there are allways tracks you can follow. I did it twice with my 12 year old son and he liked it very much. The tour starts at the "Berghaus Malbun" in Buchs. After the end of the ski-lift you walk up to the forest and turn right. Just follow the tracks up to...

"Christmas happening" with some authors of the most popular slovak hiking server www.hiking.sk. An excellent beginner course at Grimmialp for the weekend. Saturday we went up the eastern valley, but the visibility was quite poor so the sense of accomplishment was quite limited. Sunday we went up the middle valley and the weather was fantastic (I burned myself even with plenty of suntan lotion on). We made it up to the Traumlücke (Dream saddle) and had a great view of the region. The view was...

James, Boo and I hiked up Heather Ridge and made several sweet turns down Moonlight Bowl. Super trip. Perfect snow at the upper elevations. Lots of whoomp...whomph... all around but nothing sliding anywhere. Just go be sure though, We stayed in relatively safe terrain and enjoyed some good conditions. Good snow at the higher elevations. 2+feet over a pretty solid hardpack with another weak layer about 10-12 inches...

Dr. Liz (telemark), Mike (splitboard), and Sam (splitboard) had decided that with the stable backcountry conditions that a trip to hike and ski/splitboard Mt. Ellis was in order. The avalance report was calling for and had been calling for moderate conditions in the region so plans were made. We were at the trailhead, suited up, and skinning by 09:15. After a leisurely skin with nice breaks to eat, drink, and view the...

We were flown into Kantishna. We proceeded to ski out across the park following the park road. The trip took 6 days including one rest day. The time of year was late March1977.
Skied the Couloir Marbrées in Courmayeur with Morgan. Snow conditions turned out nicely powdery on the shaded aspects, and degenerated into crust and spring snow as we approached the bottom. The upper couloir had seen two tracks earlier in the morning but was loaded with new snow. Although we got there first, we choose to check out some other option to allow the 11 tourists and guides who followed us up to ski on top...
