Hiking | 8.8 miles
Second days walking on the NICS Ramblers 2008 Lake District trip. Helvellyn from Glenridding via Miresbeck, Little Cove and on to Striding edge. Descent via Swirrel edge and Catstycam then down following Red Tarn Beck to Glenridding.Detour near the end up to Blea Cove for a couple of geocaches in the area.Probably as good a day as you could get for this one, with perfect weather and views for miles in all directions.Millions of catterpillars on...
With traffic hardly moving today due to the extreme weather, I decided to have a hike down the Leeds/Liverpool canal to Parbold to visit some friends. It was my intention to return by the same route, but in the end I decided to walk back the road way calling into the White Lion bar on Mossy Lea Road as a final destination.
We leave for the mountains of Spain’s Marina Alta next Sunday so
this was a training walk in the Chilterns. Plenty of hills and spectacular
views, the walk will take you right through the Prime Minister’s country
retreat of Chequers. Good old English footpaths, the authorities once tried unsuccessfully
to divert the footpath outside of the Chequers estate.
Doug, Gerard, Jon, Mike and myself. Very nice hike on upper Loughrigg, with views of Grasmere and Rydal Water. A hydration stop at the Thirsty Badger, and onto the cottages of Wordsworth. A hearty evening meal at the Wateredge Inn and a nights rest at the local YHA.
Stanage Edge - Adventure Challenge Training Hike

Hathersage, England, United Kingdom
Hiking | 4.8 miles
Hiking | 4.8 miles
Ande, John, Tim & me went for a training hike at Stanage Edge, Hathersage in the Peak District today (7th Feb 2010). Weather was cloudy/misty, minus 1 to 2 degrees and it even started to snow and hail on us halfway round the loop. Did some uphill scrambling, a hilltop walk with large ice-routes to navigate(!), some downhill running and the final uphill slog back to the car where we had some lovely...
A training walk for the 3 Peaks next month on the hottest day of the year so far. Harder than initially anticipated

Coastal Walk, Babbacombe to Ilsham Marine Drive and Back

Torquay, England, United Kingdom
Hiking | 4.4 miles
Hiking | 4.4 miles
There are no finer views across Lyme Bay than those to be had from the stretch of coastline between Babbacombe and Hopes Nose. This walk starts at the Model Village car park, runs along Babbacombe Downs, through Wall's Hills, along the cliff above Antsey's Cove before looping up Ilsham Marine Drive and along a short section of the SW Coastal path back to Babbacombe.
Sooty once again decided to take us on a horrendous trip, this time around the Malverns. What's that Sooty? You see dead people and Sweep is a dirty whore? That's not very nice now is it?
Miterdale, Illgill head , Whin Rigg circular

Santon Bridge, England, United Kingdom
Hiking | 12.6 miles
Hiking | 12.6 miles
Starting at the Screes Inn we headed south east towards Eskdale before turning north east into Miterdale right up to Burnmoor Tarn. Nothing over 2000 feet here but it hits you at the half way stage when you don't want it, a 1000 foot pull up to Illgill Head. This was meant to be an easy walk day but we still logged over 13 miles and were out for 7 hours.
This is the July 2010 Ludlow Challenge - a 15 mile hike around Ludlow. It should also the called the hike of many stiles! Much of the walk was across fields full of wheat, barley and oats. The farmers had carefully preserved the footpaths so that we could easily find the paths and not damage their crops.
This is a circular (well almost) walk starting at the base of Coniston Old Man. We took the popoular tourist track up to the top of the Old Man, then continued over Brim Fell, upto Swirl How. When then back tracked over Brim Fell once more before branching off to Goats Hause - and then up to the top of Dow Crag. Finally we decended over Buck Pike and Brown Pike before joining...
Solo trip over Kinder Scout.Parked in Barber Booth and walked up to Upper Booth Farm before heading towards Jacobs Ladder.Several stops and lots of panting later at the top of Jacob's Ladder.Walked along the ridge to Kinder Low, checked out the trig there before carrying on round to Kinder Downfall.Just a trickle down today. After a bite to eat headed up the River Kinder, past Kinder Gates to the summit.Headed towards the Woolpack...
My first walk to the summit of a Wainwright. The plan was to walk the Fairfield Horseshoe but after reaching the summit of Nab Scar the wind was gusting at around 80mph. We continued onto Heron Pike and by the time this was reached it was getting to the point that you couldn't stand up. Making the decision to drop of the west face of Heron Pike instead of getting blown off...

Originally we had planned to walk all the way to Fur Tor and back but fancied an easier day. Beside it gives us an excuse to come back :-)
Lovely day again in the Peak District we got off for around 9am and the wind on the hill tops was a little chilly but it was still warm in the sun. In the dales it was very hot and we had a welcomed mug of tea at D's in Cresbrook by the old mill. Great little cafe les you eat you own food at their tables. Daisy the fat lab dog...
This walk, part of the SW Coastal Path, is one we do with the dogs at least a couple of times a week. It's not too demanding, apart from, arguably, the walk up the cliff from Watcombe beach, but the views across Lyme Bay on a good day can be stunning. Watch out in particular for the view across Oddicombe and Babbacombe beach onto Long Quarry.Technically speaking cycles aren't allowed on this...
