Trips
This little walk combines a gentle climb on easy road surface to real bush walking conditions as it follows the Smoko Creek through a series of steep forested slopes and visits several spectacular cascades.
Myrtle, King Billy and sassafras dominate the temperate rainforest of this region and as you move off road and into the bush proper, you leave behind the forestry practices of the past that have regenerated as scrubby eucalypt and...

A friend and I walked the Penguin Cradle Trail, in six days, in early Spring. It had snowed a week before, and there was a bit still about on the plateau and over on Cradle. However the weather was fine. It was slower along the Leven than we expected - many small ups and downs add up.

I reflected on a book I had been reading where Sir Edmund Hillary was featured. He described how, in 1944, he had been at an air force training camp and had determined that he would climb Mount Tahuaenuku. He hadn’t been able to get anyone to go with him so he went alone. He walked for hours and reached a sheep station where he...
A leisurely walk on the Shadow Lake Circuit at Lake St. Clair in the Cradle Mountain / Lake St. Clair National Park in Tasmania, Australia. An absolutely gorgeous day for a wonderful hike! We thought about doing Mt. Rufus but decided there was too much snow still, although another hiker/runner did the Mt. Rufus route and back in less than 5 hours the same day we went out!We could have done this...
This is the Charleston TrackThe track leads to the Forth Falls. While the track and caches are in the public reserve, access to the track is through private property. The property owners are happy for people to cross through to the track but ask if you let them know you would like to walk the track before embarking on your walk. You can do this by calling Escape B & B Accommodation...

Friday lunch time start with a camp at Two Mile Creek. Then followed a hard day, initially along the track before turning off to cross the Arthur Plains to the base of Kappa Moraine. It was quite a stiff climb up the steep side to the track then a steady ascent to the Vesta junction where we set up tents, scoured the area for water and then set out to climb Carina...
The pipeline trail is a well known local track that is used by everyone from families taking a walk to Mtb riders. The track stars opposite the Fern Tree Tavern (very convenient upon your return )and winds 12kms along the southern side of Mount Wellington. There are some spectacular views over the Kingbrough region on the way up so it is worth taking your camera. The trail itself is a gentle climb...

This is a variation to the usual Tarn Shelf walk as it leaves the main shelf to cross a saddle to the prominent peak overlooking Lake Seal. There is also a fault line that can be entered for a close up view. The walk does involve a bit of a trudge up to the Mawson Plateau and the return is back the same way. From Lake Dobson the good quality track follows the...

One of my favourite short walks. An easy 2 hr return, lots of photographic opportunities and spectacular forests. It is a bit of a drive from home but well worth the effort.
