Folding Mountain Hike
by 21coolcat21 on Aug 10, 2010
Hinton, Alberta, Canada
Geocaching | 9.9 miles
I travelled to Hinton with the main goal of climbing Folding Mountain, about 20 km west of Hinton, just outside of Jasper National Park. I needed find one particular geocache of the seven along the trail up. I was able to find all the caches, including the one I needed, and the summit cache. The hike started with a drizzle / mist in the morning, but that weather moved off to let the...

Hiking | 4.0 miles
A quick jaunt up to Sumas mountain and the eastern lookout. Nice trail with some steep sections and an average grade of about 10%. There's a couple of nice campsites at the lake if you wanted to make this a quick overnighter. Nice view from the eastern viewpoint and good place for lunch. The original plan was to hike up and over to Quadling rd and have another car parked there but...

Hiking | 5.4 miles
This is a beautiful hike that offers a lot of diversity.   Starting off at the end of a dirt road, the relatively well marked trail leads through a scenic forest with many streams and creeks. Then it  starts a gradual 1000 ft (300+meter) climb up the western edge of the Luskville escarpment.  There are many lookout points along the way.At the far end of the trail, a detour was made to...

Granby, Quebec, Canada
Road biking | 13.0 miles
This was our first time doing this bike path (Estriade). We went to Granby with the whole family. This is a very nice trail, well worth the 1.5 hour drive from Montreal. My iPhone battery was almost drained when we arrived in Waterloo so I turned off the GPS on our way back.

Kayaking / Canoeing | 17.0 miles
Day  1 - MondayThe trip to the launch at Toquart Bay took nearly all of Sunday.  Gerry picked me up at 7:30 and we arrived at the launch at 6:00 pm that night. The 4+ hour travel time from Victoria seemed to drag on and on, but finally we arrived.  We had decided to camp at the launch since it would be getting dark within an hour after our arrival.  The plan...

Transkekeko

Snowshoeing | 9.3 miles
L'aprs-midi alors...

Hamilton Hike

Hiked with Lucia on Hamilton portion of Bruce Trail. Unfortunately, it was a very foggy day, so we could not see any views of the city. I've cheated by including a few photos taken by others, to see what we missed.

Banff, Alberta, Canada
Hiking | 3.1 miles
Sulphur Mountain is located south east of downtown Banff, close to the famous Banff Springs hotel.  The mountain was named in 1916 for the hot springs on its lower slopes, presently home to the Banff Upper Hot Springs outdoor pool. A gondola ride to the top of  Sulphur  Mountain is one of the top tourist attractions in Banff.  The record one day ridership was in excess of 5500.    The summit ridge...
