We chose what we thought would be a 17-mile stretch, putting in at Terry Hershey Park and taking out at Sabine Street, but it turned out to be almost 25 miles.Despite the fact that Buffalo Bayou runs right into the middle of one of the largest cities in America, the Trail is very scenic for much of...

It was this or Toobing, and I convinced myself that paddling in a serene river would be better than rubbing tobs with a bunch of drunk people. We went to guadalupe river state park, and paddled up stream, away from the masses. Had to walk a few times, and not much, if any, in the way of fun rapids or chutes. The water was nice though.

After renting a Tarpon 120 from REI friday night, I left for Waco saturday morning.Upon arriving in Waco, we loaded up all the gear, then headed out to Whataburger and Walmart for some food. After we arrived at Cameron Park East, we launched from the provided boat ramp, and made our way down a canal that was fed by Lake Waco upstream. After 4 hours of no bites at all, Eddie and I caught...
Lorie and I tried to circumnavigate around the island but had to cross at one point.
Short run from the Nature Center to 121 bridge. Lot of fish and reptile activity. High water and much rain meant a lot of flotsam, along with falling leaves. Log bumps were frequent. Saw 5 adult baffalo, one gator, 3 cranes (egrets and herons), and about 40 turtles.
Pops and I launched around 7:45am and headed west along the shores. I caught 4 and pops 0, sorry pops.
After the UFC fight the night before, I headed home to get around 6 hours of sleep. Sean drove me to Tony's where he was all ready to go in the parking lot. We got to the 969 Utley bridge around 9:30am to launch. A couple other people pulled up as we headed down the river. Most of the river had a current pushing us along, making it very easy on us, although...
David had been pushing us to do this trip for some time. We put in at La Linda on an overcast and cool day. Our ice lasted about four days. The river level had been dropping after a previous rain and much mud had been deposited on the banks. I lost my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx after several days so I did my best to manually recreate the track for this story. The...
Bet you didn't know that there are class 1 rapids a short drive W of Houston. And nobody's on the river on a beautiful Fall morning. The 3 rapids are collectively known as "Killer Fang". Total hyperbole, but they're big enough to surf. They disappear at floodPut in river-R at the city park under F-M 1458, take out river-R under I-10. The shuttle takes only minutes.
Fun Kayaking, Rock Climbing, and Lunch. Not too hot and a nice breeze.
What a weekend! It started off Thursday evening for most of the participants who were able to make down to Aransas that day. Our hosts, David and Charlene Coward of Rockport, grilled fajiatas for us at their rental cottage where we lauched our weekend. A perfect setting.
We had planned - lazy start today day, having a breakfast of donuts (some went into town for a real breakfast) before heading over to the...
