Trips
Team Frozen X set out to see the sites at Stone Door and Greeter Falls in the ice and snow. Since we only did short hikes, I included the driving portions of the track. I'm lazy like that sometimes. The Greeter Falls and Blue Hole photos geotagged properly, but the Stone Door and LaurelFalls photos are a bit jumbled. My camera batteries were running low and the clock wasn't precisely synchronized with my...
Headed out with Al and Layne to perform maintenance on The Legend of the Ghost River Howler and Tiger Celebrates! geocaches.Temp was in the upper 40's to mid 50's during the trip. Not bad at all out on the river today.
A group of geocachers from the flatlands of West Tennessee came to the mountains for a little day hike on Mount LeConte. We hiked up the Trillium Gap trail, took a quick break at the LeConte Lodge and hiked back down the Alum Cave Bluff Trail. This was NOT an easy day hike. If we do it again, we'll definitely make plans to spend a night (or three) at the lodge before...
Twin Falls is a site not to be missed! This track includes a few short hikes and some driveing segments.

Sydney, Lindsay, and I headed out to explore this really unique cove. Most of the walls are sandstone. The falls are amazing and on the way out on the eastern wall we found about 15 Eastern Newts. There is a neat Earthcache at the bottom.

Last January,
the Frozen Dozen made a hike to the Walls of Jericho on a day that
never got above zero degrees Centigrade. We had hoped for a somewhat
warmer day for our hike to Virgin Falls. As it turned out, we became
the Sub-zero Seven on today's adventure. Luckily for us, we were the
Sub-Zero Seven Plus MonkeyBrad for part of the day.We
had gathered at Rock Island State Park on Friday and planned our hike
from the...

Took Team Frozen X to Fall Creek Falls to see the frozen falls in person. Fall Creek Falls and Piney Falls were both spectacular. On the way out, we made the big loop through the southeast chunk of the park and saw a great many deer.
After waiting out a storm in the safety of a nearby restaurant, we headed out to find a geocache and take some pictures. The problem became time. If we had been here in summer it would probably have been fine, but with the shorter days of TN winter, we ran out of time.
Ghost River float with Adam, Al and Bob.We saw numerous water snakes (nerodia sipedon, perhaps) along the way. I also saw the first moccasin (agkistrodon piscivorous) that I have ever encountered on this stretch of the river.Along the way through the Ghost, I wandered away from the marked trail and hid a geocache. It wasn't easy to find my way back to the trail, but I heard some folks paddling by and...
We took the trail along the rim on the way in and the old road bed on the way back out. We went almost to the bottom, but Zoe's flip flops were not the right kind of shoe to navigate the wet rocks in the valley.
This is a great place to get out and take a hike. You can hunt three geocaches along the way and there is a very cool waterfall just off the trail.

The 2013 Frozen Dozen crew venured to Chattanooga this year. Once again, nothing frozen, but a lot of great adventures. This adventure was braved by TitansFan, PeanutPapa and GeoYakr! PeanutPapa mentioned that he missed out on taking this route on a previos trip. The main attraction being MushroomRock, but the suspension bridge and river were the hidden treasure for us all. The hike along the way was great with challenging elevation changes,...
