To Parent's with Jesse. Started around 7:10. About two miles into the 7.5 mile run a big storm descended upon us. Torrents of rain, lightning and thunder and water rushing and puddling on the dirt roads. We were soaked. Quickly protected our iPhones but kept going. Arrived 1 hr 21 min later and looked like drowned rats.
Beautiful day running on the fire roads back in the woods. Saw a turtle lumbering along the trail, picked wild blueberries, saw another runner dashing through the woods, and many other nice things to make it a grand adventure. Much slower running on these roads which are loose sand and much more difficult but good for my knees since it is a soft landing for my feet. Wish Jesse was here to...
My longest run yet. Took off feeling good with my new Nike Air shoes which have a lot of squish and are easy on my knees. Took a water bottle along and dropped it off at points I would cross again. It helped. I felt good and just kept going. I ran TEN MILES painlessly and had a great time. Twenty minutes after the run my blood pressure was 110/71 -- not...
Tried out my new winter running clothes. It was about 30 degrees but a quarter way into the run I started getting hot and had to unzip everything. But it was fun, never got to hot or cold and felt great the whole way. Nice being able to do this in the winter as well as the summer. I now have 104 miles since November 27.
After Mass Jesse I and took off for a run out on the country roads by our house. It was in the 40's and sunny. Quite nice for a change. We pretty much stayed out of the mud and had a nice time talking along the way. Saw sandhill cranes (huge birds), and a marathon runner who blew past us like a freight train. Great day; felt good!
Had to pick up Kresta's van to prepare for Toledo Churches Pilgrimage tomorrow. Janet dropped Jesse and I off at the Dixboro Store at Dixboro and Plymouth Road and we ran back. Fastest yet at 6.8 miles per hour and felt better than ever. Fun running with Jesse.
I came to Marquette Michigan to speak twice at the first annual Upper Penninsula Catholic Men's Conference. Two hundred fifty enthusiastic guys. Great time. I spoke on my conversion story and in the afternoon, the Life of St. Paul. Great Bishop Sample really impressed me. Went to Mass, took this run and now going out to get something to eat. Funny seeing all the various denominations here with the beautiful Catholic Cathedral...
Jesse and I took off early when the sun was beginning to rise. I had not run for two days since my legs were sore from hard runs without days off. Jesse had several days off so we felt great and ran with ease. It was cool, almost cold. We had to wear gloves. But flowers were popping out, sandhill cranes flying over, leaves adding a green hue to everything. It was...
I had to run over to Ave Maria Radio at Dominos Farms to record a pilgrimage audio commercial. I decided it would be good for Janet to drop me off so I could run back home and Jesse decided to join me. Great run. Fun being with my great son. Beautiful day with fragrance of fresh flowers in the air.
It was a mile or more into the jog before reaching the Kal-Haven but the Michigan countryside is a good environment none the less. Going eastbound is a flat run all the way to Kalamazoo. A left turn completes the trail at the South Haven trail head after crossing the Black River. An optional dogleg down main street allowed me to view the big lake from the Harbor entrance. Even with a light rain falling, it was a...
