My first time hiking or backpacking on this side of the state. Very nice. Great trail system all around. Some great long distance views from up high on the west side of the river, great views of the river from the east side, and fun terrain for hiking all around. I'm out of shape compared to my previous backpacking trips, so this was challenging, but not unreasonable. I'm pretty sore the day...
Friday: meet at Pickerel Lake State Forest Rustic Campground Website: http://www.michigandn... Map of location: http://maps.google.co... I
will be arriving around 4:00. However, it does not matter how late you
get there. I am just using Pickerel Lake as a staging area to go to
Jordan River on Saturday morning. Campsites: $15 and can
accommodate 4 people (2 tents). There are no reservations- you pay at a
tube when you enter the campground. I will...

View my backpacking Web site at http://samh.net/backpackingOverviewJason, Mark, Mike and Sam set out for a week of backpacking in what
ended up being the worst mosquitoes any of us had ever seen. This is no
understatement either as we all grew up in various parts of Minnesota
which is home to some of the biggest and worst skeeters this side of
Alaska.
This was Jason's first backpacking trip and we were
doing decent miles much to his...
My 32 mile backpacking trip in the Porcupine Mountain Wildneress in the Fall was spectacular. It got down to 30 degrees my first night out, but the fall colors were awesome. Share my trip reports on thebackpacker.tvNew Pictures and Video
Backcountry backpacking, camping and hiking over a 3 day weekend. We hit all the virtual Geocaches on the Island and a couple of the EarthCaches. We plan on going back to do the North/South Loop.

Friday night most of us met at Seaton Creek campground. I arrived there just as it got dark. Saturday morning we broke camp and headed for a spot near Eddington Creek. It was a beautiful weekend with the fall colors in bloom. Many people were on the trail and there were a lot of kayaks on the river. 13 of us showed up at Eddington creek to hang out.A good time was...
This hike is in the Manistee National Forest in
Michigan. It is a 20 mile loop with water being easily accessible for
2/3 of it. There is a stretch on the NCT trail side where water is not
accessible for about 7 miles.
The NCT trail side of this loop is all old growth forest. It's a lot of
up and down. Mountain bikes are allowed on this section. Near Hodenpyl
dam...

View my backpacking Web site at http://samh.net/backpackingMark and Sam took a four day weekend and did a great – albeit rainy –
loop within the confines of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State
Park located on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our trip route was as
follows: N. Mirror Lake Trail, Little Carp River Trail, Lake Superior
Trail and Big Carp River Trail.
Jen and I descided to try out backpacking through Michigans most northern mountain range. After 3 days, 27 miles, and 6000 Vertical feet of traveling, we were quite satisfied with our acheivements through this trip.
This was our 1st trip to the Porkies - and we lucked out, with colors at about their peak, missing the rain and snow by a day on either side of our hike. We set off from Lake of the Clouds overlook, did the Big Carp River Trail > Correction Trail to Mirror Lake, > North Mirror Lake Trail back to our start - a total of about 13 miles. There had been some...

North Manitou Island is very rustic and open to backpacking only. You can camp anywhere on the island so long as you are not within 300 feet of any water or remnant buildings. Its beautiful backwoods and totally open shores you can spend days without seeing anyone else. Personally I liked camping on the coasts for a nice view, some off the water breezes, and with the breezes little or no bugs...

Segment of the North Country Trail from Grand Marais to Munising referred to as the Lakeshore Trail that travels through the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We made the trip in 4 nights/5days and really enjoyed it. Take advantage of transportation options through Altran to get to and from the trailheads. We started in Grand Marais and I'd recommend that route as the views get better going West.Sites were good with bear poles...

My wife and I made the ferry ride to north manitou island and spent 3 days backpacking around the island.
Short backpacking trip to introduce the girls (ages 14, 10, and 8) to backpacking. This is a nice quick hike to get someone started. We began at the Waterlook Discovery center and checked out the exhibits first, have some lunch, and the hit trails.
Trip to North Manitou Island. Troy, Dave, Scott, Mitchell, Mathew, Jason & Tim
This was an excellent backpacking trip for someone like me, who just wanted an overnighter in order to get back into backpacking. It gave us an approximately 7+ mile hike the first day, and about a 3 mile hike the second day.The trails are well marked and not too rough or sandy. The walk in camp site is not marked with signs or anything, but once you get there you can't really...
