Free parking, vault toilets, no water.Conditions: Lake Superior (and all that comes with it). The total trip time was 5 hours 30 minutes. The distance was right around 17 miles. Beautiful part of the river, a few tight sections. One or two spots got a little close, but all in all it was a great trip. It was a nice sunny day and a nice float for the most part...once the river opened up to Morrow Pond the wind picked up and and it was a hard...

Beautiful clear meandering river all the way to Gitche Gumee
Greg and I canoed 27+ miles of the Au Sable River through the heart of Huron National Forest, camping 3 nights at boat-in sites 09C, 17C, and 37C(the third being an island in Cooke Dam Pond). Along the way we portaged Loud Dam and Five Channels Dam, paddled lakes, and hauled gear in tremendous heat and humidity. We also fit in a quick visit to Lumberman's Monument, a site I've been visiting since...
2 person solo kayak trip. This is always a beautiful strech of river but today was slower going than expected. Mike capsized about 3.7 miles down river against a log jam and had a tough time getting out of the current with his gear. Lost: 1 fishing poleRuined: 1 "waterproof" timex watch/compass
A lake paddle from Echo Township Park on Six Mile Lake through Ellsworth to Thurston Park in Central Lake. On this day there was little power boat traffic and lots of wildlife including a deer that crashed though the river in front of us (camera didn't catch it though).
Started at Victory Park in Albion and took out at B Drive North, downstream of Marengo. Found a few
small riffles and a couple rapids. There was only one fallen tree to navigate over. We made no other portages. Saw lots of birds, ducks, geese, one deer, and a heron.Discharge at Marshall 336 cfs
A beautiful, warm/hot day for this trip: Sunny & 85F.
Kayaking Pere Marquette from Reek Rd in Custer, MI to Riverside Park in Scottville, MI
I kayaked in the little bay by our campground into Mackinaw City. I should have figured out the ferry times so I would know when they were coming in. This was also the first time this summer I kayaked without shoes on - my pegs were one notch too far away. I wasn't comfortable with the there.
Doug and I did this canoe trip to check out the Sylvania Wilderness area of Ottawa National Forest. We went in about noon on Wednesday July 29th. We started at the boat launch of Crooked Lake, paddled to the portage to High Lake, paddled to the portage to Kerr Lake, paddled to the portage to West Bear Lake where we camped. Loons often were seen on West Bear as many...
