Day 5 on the paddleboard and Kristian Gustavson is still paddling strong, but the upright position leaves you more exposed to the elements.  Still made good distance, 30.5 miles total for Day 5.  It was cold with a solid tailwind and a nearly hypothermic mid-day restroom break.  Truly a moment of needing to press forward, there was no sitting still in these conditions, must move downstream.

Day 2 of the Gaining Ground Expedition began with a cold and windy entry at Simmesport.  Thunder and lightning from the night before nearly flattened the tents, but by morning we were ready to explore the river.  Living Lands and Waters was doing a cleanup at the campsite that morning and we were able to meet up with them for a little bit before heading out.

After meeting up with CC Lockwood at the visitor's center, we met up with Dean Wilson on the river for a floatilla of a board room meeting over lunch.  Camped on the Little Atchafalaya River.

The last day of the Expedition began with an amazing sunrise that was featured in the June/July table of contents of Reader's Digest.  The 30 ft cypress Junebug had done its job and safely taken its crew from the Old River Control Structure through America's largest river swamp and into Morgan City.
