A trip around the Blaen Bran area in Cwmbran , taking in the lovely scenery of the area and looking at some of the Conglomerate ( or pudding ) stones which the area is famous for . Part of this route follows the Cistercian way or Pilgrim Route through Cwmbran .
Walking in Greenmeadow woods, looking at the 350 million year old Conglomerate Quartz stones which are of interest to local historians and Geologists .
Quite a tough route this one , and not to be attempted in the middle of winter unless you are familiar with the area or are good with a map, because we traverse the top of the mountain between Twm Barlwm and Mynydd Maen. A lovely walk passing the old Henllys Colliery nr Cwmbran, South Wales
Started this trip at Bettws, Newport and rode towards Cwmbran.
The canal path was a steady pull all the way to Cwmbran.
The scenery was pleasant with lots of wild life along the route.
The route displayed starts at Cwmbran because it was easier to take photos travelling back down hill.
A short 3.5 mile hike up to the top of Twmbarlum mountain following the ridge north/East back down to our starting point. Strong winds across the top but it was good to start walking again after a long layoff. Got the heart pumping hard again on the climb up, and the knees giving me jip on the way down, but still worth it to see the views.
