Trips
Over the fields to Ardingly. Thought it was important to check the supplies of Harveys beer at The Oak. No need to panic, all OK and lunch not bad either. Side roads in Ardingly becoming worse as they get polished by car spinning wheels. B2028 and College Road fine. Burstowbridge Hill icier than before and I think the gritter must have been on the "light dusting" setting - we shall see how effective...
Hammingden Lane, Burstowbridge Hill and Station Approach all have continuous packed snow and ice. 4WD-OK 2WD-very dubious - might be possible around Station Approach towards Horsted Keynes. West Hoathly to Horsted Keynes Road has been gritted and slushy but easily passable (if you can get there) Road in Horsted Keynes village thick snow but has been gritted - and road to Lindfield from there has been gritted too. Plenty of 4WDs out...
The salt on the lane and hill is doing something, but as you can see in the pictures not much yet. The B2028 has a fresh covering of snow and slush but should be easily passable but very few vehicles out. I think the hill is still too bad for 2WD but 4WD seen going up without too much trouble this morning.
Went out to survey road conditions - Hammingden Lane up to 9 inches of snow in drifts otherwise 5-6. 4-wheel drives managing to come up and down BurstowBridge Hill but even then with difficulty. B2028 open as far as I could see but only large delivery lorries seen. Apparently road closed in or the other side of Ardingly. Basically you wouldn't want to go out there if you could get there!
Dog walk to Ardingly - plenty of sledges out in Klondike valley. Traffic moving gingerly on the B2028 with just slush on the road - OK now but when frozen will be dodgy. Burstowbridge Hill and Station Approach no real change except the loose snow is now packed down and more slippery than before!
There is definitely some thawing going on and even the limited salt on Hammingden lane and Burstowbridge Hill is having a positive effect. B2028 all clear now. Station Approach as bad as ever this end but apparently some thawing further down.
Snow made it impossible to ride. Just turned into a snowball fight. Oh and to everyone we pushed out of the car park, thanks are being accepted in monetary form.
