Trips
Nice corners of Bern on a rainy Sunday.
The Frienisbergwald is a beautiful forest located about 15km north from Bern. This forest is still criss-crossed by the medieval roads first laid out by the monks of the Cistercian monastery of near-by Frienisberg in the Middle Ages.
Just after Säriswil one can walk along the old Mülibach ("Mill's Creek") on the way towards Wohlen.
Another beautiful yet little known forest near Bern. This one has its noisy parts, where it meets the Autobahn A1, but otherwise always quiet and nicely moody.
Really nice hike in the hills and forests west of the valley between Wynigen and Herzogenbuchsee. The Steinenberg is dotted with sometimes huge erratic rocks from the last ice age (hence its name) and that part of the hike is particularly interesting.
A beautiful hike in the Jura mountains, well above the fog. The second part leads down to the ancient vineyard village of Ligerz.
Pleasant short hike up to the Blasenflue (1118m). Quite a bit of hardtop on that one.
Postcard Emmental all the way.
Wermutstropfen: Restaurants leider alle peripher gelegen, öV-Anschluss (Bus) vergleichsweise schlecht.

Nice hike on this beautiful sunny day. Very little paved road, lots of forests. Highlights were the ruins of the two 12th/13th-century castles of Grünenberg and Langenstein. A small museum exists in the former of the two. Nice web site: www.gruenenberg.ch/.
The first day of snow of the season. Very quiet on the Wanderwege between Krauchtal and Bantiger (954m).
A short afternoon walk in the Wylerwald. This small bucolic forest is traversed by the massive Autobahn A1, the heart of Switzerland's communications network; few of the thousands of daily drivers above suspect how much life there is underneath. The forest reflects this juxtaposition, this close proximity between forest and urban life: at once beautiful, peaceful and, yes, noisy with the traffic overhead. The possibilities offered by this infrastructure have long been...
Very cold and snowy up here (over 900m). Typical landscapes between the Emmental and the Worblental. The old Steingrube in Oberburg is really nice. More pictures from this trip in Picasa .
