Trips
Walk through Stockholm on the first day. We had a few hours to explore before our room was ready, so we headed
out for Gamla Stan (the “old city”). I walked by a small square by the
Nobel prize museum and saw the changing of the guards at the Royal
Palace, it was a great first day. For dinner, I had the biggest
personal pizza of my life, it wouldn’t even fit on the plate!
Ett första test
First time ever trying our long distance ice skating. Did this on an in Stockholm wellknown lake called Norrviken. It is known for early and thick ice.Note: The photos are somewhat randomly placed as I had forgot to active the geo-tagging in the camera.
On Friday, we took a ferry to Skansen, an outdoor zoo/park. The zoo was
incredible, there were lemurs running around at your feet and vampire
bats sleeping only a few feet above your head with no netting in
between. I left the island around dinnertime to meet up with my friend
who is working in Stockholm for the summer, and we went to a crawfish
party, where you sit around and eat crawfish and drink beer. I...
1st
sailing trip of the year and 1st singlehanded. Great weather and few
other boats. Route: Rindö - Vaxholm - Grinda - Finhamn - Rindö. A few
issues along the way as you can see from the track. Wanted to
anchor at Paradised but since I was alone unsure if I'd manage to set
anchor and get ashore by myself - chose the marina instead.
On our last day, we finally took the archipelago ferry tour, which
definitely makes you want to buy a summer home on a small island only
accessible by sailboat.
Fairly nice run no stops this time. Training going well. Good pace in places and good hill climbs.
The next day, we took a ferry to the Vasa museum. The Vasa was a huge
warship built in the 1700s which didn’t even make it out of the harbor
before it sank to the bottom. They had to saw of the mast so that other
boats could still sail over it. About 50 years ago, it was found again,
almost perfectly preserved (due to the lower salt levels in the Baltic
Sea). There was a huge...
After the World Water Week convention in the morning, we visited Gamla Stan again (it’s hard not to). In particular, we
went to the nobel museum and walked around the outside of the Royal
Palace.
Today was a walking day. We first went to Galma Stan for lunch, and
then walked over to Skeppsholmen and saw some pretty cool sculptures. The best thing about this day was the dinner dance following the Junior
Water Prize Ceremony. All I have to say is that there was an ABBA cover
band, and all the words and dance moves just came to me. There was also
a viking choir.
This day was ideal for GPS tracking and Geotagging. First, we took a
ferry to Drottningholm, where the royal palace is. We were able to see
a small section of the archipelago (26,000 islands total). After the
boat ride, we walked through the gardens of the palace including an
English garden covered in geese. The old theatre was pretty amazing,
they had all sorts of high-tech (for the time) stage devices for change
scenes and trap doors. We...
