This is the more popular West side hike for Bukit Tabur. I lost the first 15 minutes of the trip due to an accidental press of the home button on the iPhone :(. I saw a beautiful electric blue dragonfly and the 'green carpet' at the end of the trail gorgeous as usual. Notice the thicker moss like plant at the beginning of the trail. I noticed this when I was going...
My 2nd attempt at reaching the true peak (or at least the false peak) of Gn Nuang. Went there with my Gn Tahan March 2011 expedition team mates and Chris (who was initially in the expedition team but had to withdraw due to clash in schedule). Started off relatively early - before 8:00am. The trail was challenging - just like my first attempt. This time I attempted wearing shorts instead of track...
At 4095m, Kinabalu is the highest mountain in South-East Asia. The
trail is quite easy though quite long. It is usually attempted in two
stages - to Laban Rata refuge during the first day and to the summit
and back down during the second day. There are ropes in the higher
sections of the trail. The trail becomes quite difficult during rain (see here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0Y7U3y8opg ). We were lucky enough to
miss the rainy days, but the day before...
On 12 February 2011, Junaidi & I went up to Dataran Lolo
in Gunung Nuang to try out camping gear
which we will be bringing for the Gunung Tahan expedition next month. Despite
the weather forecast that there would be shower towards the late evening, we
took our chance.
We started our trek from the registration booth in the
afternoon after 2:00pm and after a sweaty & tiring hike, reached Dataran
Lolo around 4:30pm. Looks like we need to...
Sungai Luit is a small river located near Pertak dam, one of its attractions is Lata Makau, a powerful waterfall accessible within a 2 or 3-hour hike.
Another relaxing (well, almost relaxing) hike around Bukit Saga and Ah Pek San with my outdoor buddy, Han.Han showed me Trail B of the Bukit Saga trail. But we were distract by our chat that we overshot a left turning and straight onto unknown territory. However, thanks to the Garmin 60CSx (my precious, as Gollum would say in LOTR), and our cool, we managed to find a way out of the maze...
Bukit Saga is a low hill (about 410m) located in Cheras. Despite the low elevation, there are many up and downs including some steep ones. During this trip, we did the big loop starting from Taman Saga. There would be 3 more starting points: Cheras Hartamas, Cheras Awana and Wangsa Cheras.
Gunung Semangkok (1824m) is the highest peak of Selangor, it is located at the border between the states of Selangor and Pahang. The start of the trail follows Pine Tree trail but the hike usually takes 2 days as the way back is as difficult as the climb.
It was some sort of like company outings. I was at first 50-50 about the hike since there was another mountain bike ride going on. But since I needed to visit the cache that I am taking care at the peak, I decided to join the fun.
We did the hike by noon.
Went for a half-day hike up Sg Lepok waterfall today with some friends and acquaintance, namely Ashley & Thomas, Junaidi, Eileen & her gym mates, and Tee, Wong & Lim (friends of Ashley's ex-teacher, Han, who unfortunately couldn't join us). The day started off rather wet - drizzling but after breakfast at Pekan Bt 18 Ulu Langat it stopped. The trail was as challenging as it has always been. Good for some...

The Pine Tree Trail is the longest and most challenging trail in Bukit Fraser. It follows the Selangor/Pahang border and there are two summits (Pine Tree hill and Rhodo hill) with clear views of the surroundings. There are many up and downs all the way which makes it a bit more challenging than it looks. To extend the hike, it is possible to continue after the second summit to go to Gunung...
Another training session for us who will be going to climb Gn Tahan this coming March 2011. This time, the trail was rather challenging after Dataran Lolo/Lolo Camp due to the slippery & muddy terrain. We were making good time right up to Lolo Camp - even river crossings were so easy as the water level was relatively low. But were we in for a surprise after Lolo Camp. At first we thought we...
