Trips
This is a short loop beginning near Fukuoka University Hospital. It runs just below a temple in the foothills of Mount Aburayama then follows a paved road up the side of the mountain. At the end of the road, there is a steep, rough hiking trail that runs back down and finishes near the hospital. There is another hiking trail that crosses the road and continues back down to the shrine. You...
I love this area, the northern area of Honshu island. I've traveled there with my mountain bike tree times.
We went to Kyotogyoen to apply for the entrance of the Katsura Imperial Villa. Then we headed west to Myoshinji, Ninnaji, and Hirano-jinjia. We were happy to see cherry blossoms in Hirano. We then went to Sagano. We rode past a saddle and started to go down. Then we decided not to go further because we were not sure if there was any path along the Katsu River that could lead us...
If you want to do a gut-busting mountain-bikeride,and get a good sweat-up in the process, this track is for you. This course has many undulations - ups-and-downs - with some sealed road, unsealed road, and some downright rough stuff to boot.Add to this some great scenery along the way. I have to let you into a secret. This wasn't my planned course.Thank's to a wrong turn-off,which I don't regret in any way,I soon found myself seeing/experiencing...
The cherry trees along the Kamo River were blooming beautifullly. Kiyomizu-dera was very crowded. We decided not to get in because cherry trees were mostly in buds. We went to the Kamigamo-jinja and the Kyoto Botanical Garden in the afternoon.
We took train in the morning to Omihachiman. Omihachiman is famous for its canals, old buildings and a Jinjia. We toured around the town for a while, and then carried on our trip. I heard about Biwa-ko from a comic book when I was a kid. It is quite a big lake. Actually, it looks more like an ocean than a lake. Especially it was windy and cold today. Hikone has a...
An excellent route from Haruno up along the western end of the Nanrei Ridge to Tenno New Town. This ride has everything you could ask for: ups, downs, dual track, views, mikan farms etc. Highly recommended.
Another excellent trail up to Kiyotakiyama and then through to the paragliding take-off point. A good mixture of road and off trail with superb views from the parasailing take-off point. The ascent has a nice mix of bamboo forest, mikan fields and 'old-growth' forest. Well worth the effort of the uphill.
There was a bike path just outside Kushiro city. But the scenes of the wetland was blocked by the bushes planted by the path. The road to Akan was ascending all the way. We got really tired and paused in front of a house. The owner invited us in for tea.Akan is quite a tourist trap. But it is still nice to stroll around. The biggest attraction is manimo, a type of...
We started our cycling journey of Hokkaido today. We rode north bound along the bike path just outside Sapporo downtown, and then turned to highway 275. The bridge over Ishikari River was quite narrow, and the traffic was very busy, so we turned to highway 12 instead. Our first plan was to get to Asahikawa today, but it was dark when we got to Fukugawa. We found the Maabu camping site after...
We got waken up in the middle of the night by rain drops. We hustled to cramp our bags into the tiny space by the tent, and then crawled into the sleeping bag again. Some Japanese women met Mei in the kitchen and gave us some rice for breakfast. Highway 12 was very busy and narrow at some parts. Luckily, we discovered a bike path behind a suspension bridge. The path was flat...
Low hills with green plantation made the hills beyond Biei quite scenic. We spent some time riding around town of Biei and the nearby hills, and then headed south to Furano. When we got to town of Furano, we found a RH sign just outside a house. We rang the door bell, and a lady who spoke zero Englishan swered the door. We squeezed all Japanese phrases we knew to communicate with her. ...
We stayed by the Lake Kussharo, and enjoyed the sand hotspring by the lake shore.
We rode from Inawashiro to Aizuwakamatsu. We went to Iimori where the
19 young samurais who commited suicide during the Bushin War were
buried. Then we went to the castle. The castle was a replica, and it was under repair. The moat around the castle is wide and deep. There are many historic legacies in the city. It was a bit late when we got to the train station. We decided to...
The canal area of Kurashiki is very beautiful. We spent nearly the entire morning lingering in the place. We then headed north to find the Kibi bike path introduced in the Lonely Planet. However, the highway became narrower and traffic heavier at certain point. I decided to change to small path shown on the GPS. We then wasted a lot of time looking for directions in the mountainous area. The bike path did worth...
