A short challenging hike up a well know Wicklow mountain, taking in some fantastic views of Lough Tay.
Trips
We climbed to the summit of Djouce starting at Crone Woods and following the Wicklow Way all the way past Powerscourt Waterfall, and crossing the Dargle River further up. Fantastic weather, and were lucky to see some Sika Deer coming off Djouce. We descended from Djouce off the beaten track, following the ridge to the Dargle Bridge as the crow flies. Keep and eye out for great views of the Sugarloaf, Howth...
A good trek if you can avail of two cars or a drop off/pick up. Takes in seven Wicklow tops- Carrigvore, Gravale, Duff Hill, Mullaghcleevaun East Top, Mullaghcleevaun, Moanbane and Silsean. Very boggy and wet all the way (Sept 2010) but great views when clear.
Loop from Glendalough, up the Spink and back through the Miners Village to Glendalough.
This is a nice circuit hike with a good mix of forest track and bog hiking. The ridge is on the border or Wicklow and Dublin and gives an amazing mix of views of the Wicklow Mountains, Dublin Bay and the sea. Although only 8 km the walking on bog makes it a 3-4 hour hike. The descent takes in a portion of the Wicklow Way.
Took the bus to KIlmacanogue. Climbed the Sugar Loaf from the trail adjacent to the side of the GAA pitch. Lots of heather and bracken; easy to lose the path if not careful. Descended summit of Sugar Loaf via the "tourist trail" to the south. Exited the car park, turned right, followed road, then turned right (very busy road!) and then right again into Ballyremon Commons. Followed roads and droving paths around the...
A moderate hill walk with a steady uphill incline. Fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, including Djouce and Great Sugar Loaf, and adjacent views of Powerscourt Waterfall from above, as well as Bray head, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin Bay and Howth.Park at the Crone Woods parking lot. This distance recorded is to climb to the summit of Maulin, then return on the same path to the parking lot. Very accessible and easy by...
Went up the valley from the hostel for about 1 km. It was dark with headlight on. Cross over the torn away bridge and went up to where the path ended. Had to skirt around the mountain to the south east but decided to go towards lugduff. Didn't make it all the way to lugduff so headed back down towards the cliffs above the hostel. Tried to drop down there through a...
