I climbed to the summit of Knockanaffrin for the second time, albeit via a different route in early May 2009 after talking to a friend who lived in the area. The walk is easily accessible from the village of Rathgormack in Councty Waterford. Directions to the start of this walk can be obtained from the hiking centre/hostel located in rathgormack village, (www.rathgormackhostel.com) and there are plenty of signposts on the main road...
This trip is a long walk, 20.5km or around 13 miles. It starts over on the Coillte track which leads to Lough Mohro. The track to the lake is well signposted. From Lough Mohro, we hiked straight up the gully behind Lough Mohro and once on the ridge, we headed in a south easterly direction to the summit of Knockanaffrin. From here, continue in a south - south easterly direction follwing the...

From here, head in a northwesterly direction around the scout hut up the slopes of Carraigsheegowna towards the rocky outcrop at the top of this hill. From here, walk west for a short while to the top of the ridge, and then head south along the ridge taking in Knocksheegowna and Knocksheegowna, and continue towards the Gap. At the gap, Climb...
This route is similar to my other trip, the Coumshingaun Loop except that instead of hiking stright up the south ridge of Coumshingaun, you walk directly in towards the lake itslef, then along the lake on the left hand side for a bit, before turning straight up the main gully just befoe the large rocky north facing cliffs on the left hand side of the lake. From the top of the gully,...
A-B. Starting from the car park area turn right on the surfaced road and follow the green arrow for 100m to reach Glenpatrick Bridge over the Glasha River. Immediately after the bridge, turn left into forestry - pass through the barrier and veer left at the Y-junction. Continue along the forestry road as it ascends alongside the river and after nearly 1km, veer left at the next Y-junction. After 500m the forestry...

This is a walk on forestry tracks for the most part with the last leg across soft mountain terrain to the lake. We have been doing the walk at night but this is a fantastic destination as the view from the summitt is superb day or night. At night you can see the lights of Waterford and the new cable stay bridge to the south and you can see the lights of...
