Trips
This was a wonderful trip that began in Dublin with James Joyce, taking in Bloom's day of course [June 16th], and visiting the Arann Islands to see where JM Synge got his inspiration for many of his plays. No trip would be complete without a study of Yeats and so we went to Yeats Country, Sligo, "The Land Of Heart's Desire," while there we took a trip on Lough Gill, to see...
This is a trip up Ben Bulben on the steeper side. its a nice walk but there are some access issues at the foot of the mountain. I'm not from the area so if there is a back story I don't know it. We travelling up the side of the mountain via a trail to the top and descended through one of the gulleys which is dangerous enough as some climbing is involved and it was slippy.
This was my first chance to meet other cachers, people like Spy Caleb, Two Amigos [only one was present] The weather was excellent sun shone all day we had a ball, got lots of info on how to maximise use of my GPS
Dad and I joined Sligo Triathlon Club cycle, Sunday morning, 22Jan12Avoiding heavy NW wind, headed towards Dromahair (surrounding mountains gave a bit of shelter)... the club didn't want to stop so they carried on while we took a break in Dromahair.Nice dry day, wind bad in parts on return leg but with head down and taking turns drafting it was manageable!Broke my chain 5km from Sligo on return leg, but removed links and carried on...Except for...
Sunday morning spin with Sligo Triathlon Club 15Jan12.Nice sunny morning so to join them on 54km spin from Sligo-Dromahair-Ballygawley-Ballisodare-Strandhill-Sligo, I cycled in from Strandhill to meet them, thinking I'd peel off home on the return leg...Too clever by half, cycled in to find we left Sligo IT to do reverse loop of Sligo-Strandhill-Ballisodare-Ballygawley-Dromahair-Sligo instead...So I got lazy and peeled off at Collooney to head back for home...
Good run with Eamon and Rusty... nice dry afternoon at low tide so plenty of beach (not actually running in the water as indicated by map above!)Extended loop to do the sand-dunes towards Killaspugbrone and returned via Airport road...Felt like good run, disappointed to see that it's well under 10km though - felt like we broke that barrier!
Good run with Eamon and Rusty, trying to make a joined up loop around the Dorrin's Strand north end of Strandhill.Shorter than Culleenamore loop, good varied terrain though...
Nice Saturday morning run with Rusty - sunny and not too cold... Rusty went swimming, chasing birds and as usual ran 3km to my one... oh, to be as fit as a doggy
