Trips
The GPS screwed up along the way and I had to reboot my iPhone. It says I ran 13 miles but I ran only about 3.5. It was hot and I loved running through this very poor land of very friendly people. More later.
It's me Sujeet Modi....doing this project with my dear friends Salil,Akshay. This project is all about drawing of IIT,Guwahati Map using GeoXT and iBT GPS.
Started early in the morning (4 AM) with a headlamp, so this kept the speed down. Also, took a couple of incorrect turns in the backstreets, had to reorient. Finally, it seemed quite humid, and I didn't bring any water with me, so my pace decreased towards the end of the run. Overall, it would be a good loop if you come prepared. Right around 20 km, but with lots of elevation...
Circuit around a rather impressive mountain just outside of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. There is a temple on the top of the mountain, but this training run did not go to the top. Also, ascended the mountain off-trail, descended on stairs that were constructed to allow easier access for people to the temple at the top.
Vajra Apartments, up a small, unnamed hill, and back.Other than the ascent up a hill with a small temple on the top, there is nothing special about this run except that it was near the apartment I'm staying in. The hill is about 3.5 km from the apartments and has stairs to the top. It's a good steep climb. The return trip follows railroad tracks for 2 km. In fact, from km...

(OK, there were only 3 hills, one I did twice.)Running on city back streets, double and single track gravel, up stairs to the top of the hills, and once hiking on a trail up the steeper side of one of the hills.
Warmup, 5*1km intervals, cooldownThere is a 400 meter track near the center of the city. The track is open to the public for a nominal charge of 50 rupees per month ($1/month). It is a cinder track with an acceptable quality. Another path is located outside the stadium of the track. One circuit around the outer path is approximately 700 meters. Every day, 100's of people flock to the track to get...
The GPS struggled since the is no 3G and spotty Internet access. I also took lots of pictures and videos. Unbelievably poor and filthy. Breaks your heart seeing dying proletariat and animals lying on the sidewalk, children used to perform at spend their day rummaging through rotten filthy trash dumpsters. Sacred cows, cats with rats, children sleeping on street corners, Muslims, Hindus, Christians - mosques, temple and churches. It's another world. ...
